Benel Energy

Well Engineering Project Management – OML 26, Niger Delta, Warri, Nigeria.

Benel Energy provided Well Engineering Project Management (WEPM) services for the NPDC/FHN OML 26 Asset, delivering a 2018 work program encompassing workovers, new drills, and appraisal/exploration wells as part of the Ogini brownfield redevelopment campaign. The asset presented technical challenges including early water breakthrough (EWBT) from viscous fingering and unfavourable mobility ratios in heavy oil reservoirs.

Benel assembled an Integrated Project Management (IPM) team and implemented a structured stage-gate delivery process — from Opportunity Identification through to field Execution. Key value-adding innovations introduced included autonomous inflow control devices as a mechanical mitigation for water breakthrough, and an ESP alternate artificial lift concept, both integrated into the field execution plan.

Results delivered:

  • 8 workovers completed in one year at ~80% of benchmarked cost
  • 7 wells drilled in 229 days against a planned 250 days for 5 wells
  • Asset production rate increased by ±20%
